During the course of the re:collections exhibition we are hosting four workshops which give an unrivalled opportunity for art students, amateur writers and anyone interested in the creative process to develop your skills with a group of eight acclaimed artists and writers.
Then there are a series of practical workshops led by a pair of artists or writers during which participants will get a chance to create their own piece of work inspired by the Museum's collections. These half-day workshops offer a range of different creative opportunities for teenagers and adults.
The workshops are free, but places for each workshop are limited so please book in advance by contacting the Museum on 01892 554171.

Saturday 22nd January – from 10 AM to 12:30 PM.
Led by writers Susan Wicks and Catherine Smith. This workshop is open to those aged 16 and over.
These two experienced teachers of writing will encourage you to look at the exhibition with new eyes and rediscover the museum's secrets as a source of stories and poetry of your own. The morning of practical writing activities and discussion will aim to stimulate writers of all levels of experience.
Susan Wicks and Catherine Smith were featured on BBC Radio 3's The Verb on Friday 14th January at 9.15 p.m. They read a selection of their poems from re:collections. It is available on BBC iPlayer until Friday 21st January.
Sunday 13th February – from 2 PM to 4:30 PM.
To be led by artist Lizzy Clayman and writer Mara Bergman.
Each participant will make their own book which they can take with them. The book will be made using various unusual papers, combining image making with words.
A chance to explore imagery and text working with a poet and artist. Open to all levels
Sunday 20th February – from 10 AM to 12:30 PM.
This will be led by artists Niki Campbell and Lindsay Connors.
During this workshop Niki and Lindsay will be discussing and demonstrating printmaking. This will be a great hands-on opportunity to learn about and experiment with printmaking techniques.
All equipment, including printing press, rollers, tools, and materials will be provided.
Sunday 20th February – from 2 PM to 4:30 PM.
This will be led by artist Ellen Montelius and writer Sarah Salway.
During the workshop card board dolls will be made incorporating text as a build up for writing a story.
The idea is that each body part represents a different part of the story. Either you can leave the story as it is, or you can use it to write something new from it. Or you can swop in another body part and make a completely different story. Rather like those women who used the dress patterns could make up different parts of the doll's dress and therefore create a new story for the doll every time they used the pattern.
